Answer: Buspirone Buspirone is an antianxiety agent from a class unrelated to barbiturates, benzo- diazepines, or anti anxiety agents. It has minimal abuse potential and is used in situations of episodic or acute anxiety for clients with previous addictions. Alcoholdoes not have additive effects of buspirone, so if client drinks again while taking it, it is safer than other anti-anxiety medications/ 7 - 10 days until there are initial signs of improvement, and 3 - 4 weeks for full effect to be achieved. Adverse effects include dizziness, lightheadedness, and nervousness. The client should take the medication with food and avoid grapefruit juice for 8 hours before or afteradministration.
