adolescence - ANS-"to grow," period of growth between childhood and adulthood, gradual and
uncertain, time span is not the same for everyone, usually begins when children are physically mature
individuals and are capable of reproduction
puberty - ANS-"to grow hair" means to be physically capable of procreating, and the physical changes
that are associated with "hitting puberty," begin quite a few years before children become fertile,

development but all of the them, recognizing that no single discipline has a monopoly on the truth
emerging adulthood - ANS-the stage that describes individuals who are in some ways between
adolescent and adulthood
society for adolescents - ANS-has an important influence on their development, relationships,
adjustments, and problems; molds their personalities, influence their roles, and guide their futures,
either helps them fulfill their needs or creates problems for them by stimulating tension and frustration;
societal changes are interrelated, each change playing off of and influencing the others
