Answer:
I think it was april 2016, i got my first complete feature task. I was working on a registration form ( coordinator registration form ), My responsibility was to make a design and also backend integration.Whenever my manager asked me about estimated time to complete this task, without any previous experience I thought this might take two days. I started working but I faced some unexpected errors.Rather than working on design and other possible tasks I wasted a lot of time and I failed to finish my first individual feature task.I was very much disappointed and late night when i was alone i thought out the whole thing where did i make the mistake and if i get this opportunity now what things i will try to do differently .Then i realize i should not waste so much time with that bug, instead i should have a threshold time like 1 hr/ 30 mins if that doesn't solve within that period, leave that for sometime and focus on other things if possible. Later come back and when your mind is calm you will be able to figure out what the main problem is. And also I came to learn about Pareto principles of 80-20 rule and that also helps a lot after that.Question 2: How do you determine priorities in scheduling your time? Give me an example.
Answer:
This is a very recent story, late march this year. We are just starting working from home. Early morning i got a task from my manager that we need to do internal demo with product management time in the evening. For this we need to design some pages and integrate with backend services. For each of our work my current company has a product designer who give us a demo design in proto.io how end
product should look like. As it is a very short notice deadline he himself enable to manage to give me that design. Meanwhile i was helping one of our newly join member to integrate our coding boilerplate. I was one of the core developer of it. He also had a deadline after 48 hours, which I don't exactly remember. To meet his deadline he also need to integrate the boilerplate which also need to be done today. At first i prioritize my tasks with pareto principle 80-20 rule what are the main minimum requirement for today's meeting. After that i realizes i should focus on the page design more then backend integration. Also i called my new colleague on google meet and requested him share his code with me and so that i can guide him live. By doing page designs first i had the chance to get feedback from our product designer and if i am doing anything wrong. Then i am focus on the backend integration. I think i was successfully complete 90% of my task before our late evening meeting.Question 3: Tell me about a time you wouldn't compromise on achieving a great outcome when others felt something was good enough. What was the situation?
Answer:
I think it was august 2018, I got a task Improved design a Ranklist . My responsibility was to design the frontend. Whenever i load the ranklist i see that i took around 2 sec to load. Then i start investigating the backend. We do have a normalized table where we put user's point, last solved time, wrong tries etc information and by ordering that normalized table with points, wrong tries, and solved time we get our rank. Inorder to add order index and a logic level for loop as called add their rank with response. When i see that i thought this should be done in database end, where we are using postgres and i go through the documentation i found their is window function rank available to do this kind of work. After changing this i see a significant amount of improvement in loading our rank list. Previously i took almost 2 secs and now it comes within a sec.Question 4: Tell me of a time when you took on work outside of your comfort area and found it rewarding?
Answer:
I used to be not very good at public speaking and i used to feel very difficult to talk in front of people, unknown people. September 2016, I got an offer from a private university to take part time classes in one of their programming courses as a professional. At first i thought about fear, almost decide not to accept the offer, then i realise its a great opportunity to overcome my fear. Thinking will not resolve my fear but action will do. At first couple of classes it was really difficult for me, sometimes i was out of word to express. I brought a board in my bed room and shadowing infornt of it as i am taking my classes. It get betters overtime. I found my another passion of life, whenever i see joy of learning of my students it makes me very happy. I can tell you about one my dream. I want to give a ted talk in front of thousands of people.Question 5: . Tell me about a time when you had to analyze facts quickly, define key issues, and respond immediately to a situation. What was the outcome?
Answer:
This is a very recent incident, I think is April. We are having a team meeting in google meet regarding to choice a third party packages ( Django tenant schema and Django tenant ) for one of our new project.
We come to with two choice. One of package is four years old and another one is one and half year. From Django packages we come to know that first one is using by 27 organization and Second one is using by 14. One of mine team mate really pushing that we should used the first package But i check from github repository that there is no update of first package after November 2019, And for second one there is still update about one week ago and also author himself answer in most recent created issue. I also do check with stackoverflow question section that both of them were pretty similar number of questions and response and keep considering that first one was four years old, which means that second one is mostly used in recent times. I point out this issues and mainly focus on that after November 2019 there is no update and also the recent issue is answered by the auther within 7 hr time span which is pretty strong point that second one highly maintained now. After some back and forth discussion we both agree on that we should go with the second one. My personal philosophy on matter on conflict when we faced one we should always closely listen to other person points. Agree on those points which is might be right and also keep your points with proper explanation. If you have strong points to backup surely other person will listen to you.
Question 6: Tell me about a time when you delegated a project effectively.
Answer:
Last year December, I got called from my manager in a short notice we have to deliver a MIS project with in four week of time span. This is a very urgent project so i need to pull this this project with a team of three. My responsibility was to create issue, planning of development, code review form other team member and deliver the project as quickly as possible. First i contact with our Product and UX designer to get the demo of this project in proto.io. After that i called a meeting with my team members and first demonstrate our goal and strict deadline and how i think if we should divide our work we can meet our deadline and ask their input and what are the features they will be comfortable with work on. I have always confident on my team members ability and strength. In order to keep ourself align with our deadline and goal we decide in every monday morning and every thursday evening we will have team standup meeting. Everything works as planned and we able to finish our product before two day of our deadline and our client was very happy with our work.
Question 7: When have you used your fact finding skills to solve a problem?
Answer:
This incident happen in january or february 2017. My company launched a programming learning platform in late 2016 and i was working on some additional feature for next release. At initial state we monitored a significant number of users registered in our system but after some days active users are not that much. At Initial state, there were 6 thousand registered users but active users were around Six thousand to One thousand . In that time i was also taking a part time course of one of private university using this platform. What i release in our lesson exercise section it will be beneficiary for user if it provides hint for problems after a significant amount of time. It's a learning platform and there is no means if the user gets stuck and not able to learn on his own. I talked with project lead that i do feel hint system should introduce and this will help to engaged people more. At first he was skeptical and when i shared my own teaching experience what i feel and also get some feedback from my student he agree to try this for next release. After launching this feature, there was a significant amount of active user improvement. early state there was 10-15% active users and after this release active users rose to
30-35%.
Question 8: Tell Me About a time when you realize you needed to have go deeper level of subject matter expertise to do your job well ?
Answer:
I was using a third party library function in one of our project. For some strange reason it was not behave what expected. I go through with in use details in official documentation but couldn't find any of mine mistake and Also check with my colleagues. Then i ask a question one stackoverflow but no luck for one day. Then I decided to go their github repository. It was a very popular library and many users uses. At first it was very hard for me to understand what is actually happening and i was lost in their big codebase. I need to clear some concept my mine to able to identify what is actually happening. It was a very great experience, finally i figure out for recent patch change one of promise missed to resolve in one part of the code. I create a issue on that and mention i feel there is some mistake happen here.Mainteres quickly response with my post and fix the issue in a short time and also thanks me to identify the problem.Question 9: Tell me a challenge you had where the best way forward was not clear cut. How did you decide what to do?
Answer:
We were working on a project where social login was introduced like continue with google, facebook, github. Where the main challenge was for existing user account we should serve the existing account to the user if this is a new a user, first we should create a account then respose back to the user. For example if a user has a already account "[email protected]" in our system and then when user is tried to logged in with google and from google oauth response we see this is also "[email protected]" user then we should response back [email protected] user. We are using REST api application in our backend and usually we are sending back a token for successful logged in user, and after that client can use that token in every request and if he has proper access he can get response. But this token is our native token then validation should done one way and if this token is for any social logged in then verification should done in alternate way. For social logged in token we can't store in any of our authentication model and serve data to that token holder request as his/her social account can be compromised and for this we need to have proper validation chain. I realize why not we introduce a customer header with every private request. our that custom header will tell us as this token is for native_logged_in or for google_logged_in or for facebook logged_in. When i submitted my code for review my team lead is very like this approach.
Question 10: Tell me about a time when you coached someone
Answer:
This happened in very recent times, January of this year. One of my newly joined colleagues who joined with us just four and five month earlier was n't quite happy with his role and also he seems disturb at his work. I notice him a couple of times that he is not involved with any late office hangout or chit chat discussion during any office break. First i thought maybe this is for new office environment pressure or any other problem but then I realized he might need any help So i decided to hangout with him. We
