Answer:
Ownership - Question 2: Describe a time at work where a decision was made that may have had a small negative impact on you but was in the best interest of the team? How did you feel and what steps did you take to address this situation?
Answer:
Feeling fortunate- At my previous job at an elementaryschool after school program I was asked to come in on my day off. I was in classes that day and had a small amount of hw so being asked, to come in on my day off was a bit of an inconvenience. However, it was clear they needed the help with the students and another worker would make it easier for the other workers to take care of the kids. So it was in the best interest of the other workers and even students that I came in. At first I was annoyed when they asked me to come in but I realized it was what was best for everyone else involved, so I went in.
Question 3: Tell me about a time when you delegated a project effectively
Answer:
I've had very little experience is delegating projects since I've never been in a position where I was in charge of other employees. The only opportunity I've had to delegate a project effectively was when I assigned my team members at outbound different tasks, so we could get dispatch done on time.
Question 4: Tell me about a time when you took ownership for something that was out of your scope of responsibility?
Answer:
Although it's easy to look at tasks and jobs at work and say "that's not my job". However if I can help make things go more efficiently and quicker then i'm going to do it. An example of this is one day I was rostered at outbound but it was pretty slow and we had a few other people over there so there wasn't much to do for a while. Instead of waiting around for the work to come to me I asked a manager what part of the building wasn't slow and it was noncon scanning. So I went over to noncon scanning for a while to help catch up on the packages until it picked up at outbound.Question 5: Tell me about a time when you had to balance the needs of one department versus another. How did you come to a decision?
Answer:
Customer Obsession- Question 6: You have 30 associates who all work an 8 hour day, 5 days a week. 2 need to be indirect-they are not on the floor producing. Your direct rate is 150 unites per hour bur you have two 15 minute breaks during the day. How many units can your department produce in a 40 hour work week?If you need to produce an extra 10,000 units in a given week, how many extra people will it require?
Answer:
157,500 units a week about 2 people Question 7: Tell me about a time you made a mistake and what lesson did you learn from it?
Answer:
A mistake I've made in the past and have learned from a lot is to when to ask for help. A specific example is that I used to work at Starbucks and I worked the opening shift a lot. I was working the hot bar by myself during the busiest time of the dat which meant I made all the coffees, teas, etc by myself and for a while I was keeping up with orders but I eventually started to fall behind. I realized I couldn't handle it all on my own and asked the other barista who was stocking and cleaning to help me catch up and make drinks until the line was gone. We ended up catching up really quickly and got the drinks out quick as well. I realized that I don't have to do things on my own and that it's okay to have other people help you get things done.
Question 8: Many situation at work will require fast thinking and speed in making decisions.Give me an example of a situation in which you had to analyze facts quickly, define key issues, and respond immediately or develop a plan that produced good results.
Answer:
Bias for action/delivering results- Question 9: Tell me about a time when you felt that you acted as a leader or an owner of a project. What was the situation?
Answer:
Ownership- While working in outbound and preparing for dispatch it can get overwhelming at times. There was one day where there were only about 6 of us at outbound for dispatch and we had to deal with consolidating, problem solve, noncon, and loading. When the 6 of us saw everything we had to do, we didn't know where to start. That's when I stepped in and took ownership and asked each person to do different tasks, so it could all get done more efficiently. The one associate likes getting the non con on the truck so I asked him to scan all of the non con to each of the trucks, and to load it. Two were really good at consolidating so I asked them to do that to the two trucks that needed it. I seperated all the problem solve by buildings, then scanned them and loaded them into the trucks. Then the other two associates loaded the shuttles and carts on the truck and we finished everything in time and all the trucks got sent out by their CPT.Question 10: Tell me about the last time you went beyond the requirements of your job to accomplish a goal or reach an objective. What was the situation?
Answer:
Customer obsession- Question 11: Tell me about a time when you have worked against a tight deadline when you didn't have the time to consider all options before making a decision? What was the result of your actions?
Answer:
Bias for action/delivering results- Question 12: Describe a situation when you demonstrated initiative and took action without being told to do so. What was the situation? What was the outcome?
Answer:
Ownership- While working in outbound I've heard the ship clerks and managers talk about how sometimes packages aren'tsent out during dispatch. They were missed from the chasers. Or the chutes weren't scanned down so the packages go to RECIRC causing us to miss them or having to find them.Once hearing this when it starts to slow down at outbound I go to the AR floor and go to any chutes that have blue lights so I can scan the chutes down causing less packages to go through recirc, or being
missed when the chaser comes to close it out.Question 13: Tell me about a time when you have been faced with a challenge where the best way forward or strategy to adopt was not "clear cut". How did you decide the best way forward?
Answer:
Give me an example of a time when you motivated others.Question 14: Give me an example of a time when you were faced with a tough ethical decision (choice between right or wrong) either in your current or previous position or in your personal life. What was the situation, and what did you do?
Answer:
Integrity- I have not really faced any ethical dilemmas in work yet since i've really only had general part time jobs. However in my studies i have faced one. One time in my college business law class I had an exam I felt very unprepared for. I was tempted to figure out a way to cheat to ensure a good grade, despite it being wrong to do. I quickly reminded myself that it isn't ethically correct and even if I got a good grade, I would feel guilty for cheating. So I decided against the option and took the exam and actually ended up getting a decent grade on it. I felt proud of myself for actually deserving a good grade.
