Some anthropologists spend their time looking in the ground for fossils of early humans (physical anthropologists) or excavating sites for evidence about past societies (archaeologists), and others go off to places like Samoa or New Guinea to study the lives of peoples in other societies (cultural and social anthropologists). Many anthropologists, however, do none of these kinds of research.
