D018 LEADING INCLUSIVE SCHOOLS (AEM 3) LATEST UPDATED 2026|2026 TASK 2 WESTERN GOVERNORS
UNIVERSITY
A. Discuss the IEP violation from the perspective of the principal by doing the following:
1. Provide a brief synopsis of the incident.
2. Explain your investigation into the incident and your findings.
3. Explain how you addressed the incident with each of the following stakeholders:
• Mr. Williams, the Advanced Algebra teacher
• Sara Thomas, the student
• Mr. and Mrs. Thomas, Sara’s parents
I received a letter from the parents of Sara Thomas filing a complaint that my Advanced
Algebra teacher is in noncompliance with their daughter's IEP. They stated that Mr. Williams had
their daughter test within a small group in the classroom rather than the one-on-one environment
set in her Individual Education Plan. Unfortunately, on the test day, the special education teacher
was absent, and Mr. Williams was not comfortable sending Sara to test with a substitute teacher.
Due to this scenario, Sara failed her test, thus not passing her semester grade for the graduation
requirement course. This led me to investigate the situation further.
In my investigation, I first spoke with Sara to uncover her point of view on the events of
the testing day. She stated that she was anxious, uncomfortable, and distracted while testing in a
small group but did not want to disrespect Mr. Williams and followed his instructions. It was
evident that Mr. Williams was aware of the accommodations set in Sara’s IEP and wanted to help
her in the situation best; however, he was noncompliant.
