ETHICAL TRAITS Philippines is one of the countries in Southeast Asia where I am from. My formative years were in this country. I can still remember all the people that inspired and shaped me in the way that I am today. During my high school days, one of the people that amazed me the most is Jose Rizal. Jose Rizal is Philippines National Hero. His name is well known and is one of the topics that were included in my high school curriculum. During my studies on his works and Philosophy, I was deeply amazed at his passion to serve the Public and Society. He displayed a great sense of integrity during his captivity and execution. Serving the public and society is about one’s sense of great responsibility to serve the community as a whole. Acting with Integrity shows the importance of one’s personal beliefs and values that influences others to do the same (Managing Business Ethics by Trevino, L.K, & Nelson, K.A. (2017) pages 50). Rizal displayed these traits until his last breath. ETHICAL CONDUCT Service to the Public and Society Unlike most Heroes, Jose Rizal was not a soldier, but he fought for the county’s freedom against the Spaniard’s oppression through the use of his pen. Rizal’s main idea was to reform the Philippine Society by uncovering corruption among friars and other members of the religious orders through his writings. He exposed their wrongdoings and abuse toward the Filipinos by writing multiple novels and essays. His most popular novel, Noli Me Tangere (Touch Me Not) and El Filibusterismo (The Reign of Greed), a sequel novel to Noli Me Tangere, was the 2 major novels that opened the eyes of the Filipinos against the Spaniard’s abuse. He also encouraged young Filipinos by awakening their minds through education. During his time, local education
