1. When things are going well, changes occur very slowly. Management simply does not want to rock the boat. Changes occur more quickly during unfavorable times.
2. During the early days, project management was customer-driven. The contractor either accepted what the customer wanted or risked the loss of contracts. Simply stated, the aerospace and defense industries had no choice but to accept project management as a way of life. Survival was at stake.
3. Change never occurs just for the sake of change. There has to be a sound business purpose for companies to accept project management. When the allies for project management appeared, it became easier to accept and implement project management.
4. Hybrid organizations are non-project-driven organizations that have some need for project management such as in MIS or R&D. The students will be hard-pressed to identify an organization that is a pure non-project-driven organization.
5. The only support might come from the employees. Management is more concerned with the daily operations of the firm and the resulting profits. In management's mind, project management is a low priority. It is a support function only.
