1. What are the three types of muscle tissue and where are they found in

the human body?

Answer: The three types of muscle tissue are skeletal, cardiac and smooth.

Skeletal muscle is attached to bones and enables voluntary movement.

Cardiac muscle is found in the heart and pumps blood throughout the

body. Smooth muscle is found in the walls of hollow organs such as the

stomach, intestines, bladder and blood vessels and helps move substances

through them.

2. What are the four main types of bones and what are their functions?

Answer: The four main types of bones are long, short, flat and irregular.

Long bones are longer than they are wide and provide support and

leverage for movement. Examples are the femur, humerus and tibia. Short

bones are roughly cube-shaped and provide stability and shock absorption.

Examples are the carpals and tarsals. Flat bones are thin and flat and

protect vital organs and provide attachment sites for muscles. Examples

are the skull, ribs and sternum. Irregular bones have complex shapes that

do not fit into any of the other categories and perform various functions

depending on their location. Examples are the vertebrae, sacrum and

mandible.

3. What is the difference between tendons and ligaments?

Answer: Tendons and ligaments are both types of dense connective tissue

that connect different structures in the body. Tendons connect muscles to

bones and transmit the force of muscle contraction to move the skeleton.

Ligaments connect bones to other bones and stabilize joints by preventing

excessive movement
