Mood swings, fluctuations in sleeping patterns, cravings of certain foods, body image concerns are common complaints among pregnant women. In the situation of high-risk pregnancy that was complicated with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM), not only physiological but also psychological effects on a woman’s behavior are more pronounced, making her more susceptible to depressive mood (Stankiecicz, 2014). Women with GDM worry about the medical implications of this condition to her health and the well being of her unborn child. Influence of perinatal mood change and postpartum depression on adherence to treatment for Gestational Diabetes GDM can impose a substantial psychological burden on women. New medication regiment, diet changes, and modifications to activities of daily living can easily cause pregnant women to feel overwhelmed, helpless, and unable to comply with the proposed medical treatment plan.
