Integration requires knowledge and skills from healthcare instructions, rituals and traditions, and personal choices. With the achievement of more exceptional clinical outcomes, nurses must incorporate skills and knowledge with research-based evidence into decision-making (Melnyk & FineoutOverholt, 2015). The patient-oriented approach of care supported by evidence-based practice. The application of EBP incorporates individual clinical expertise, external evidence, values, and expectations of the patients based on their individual preferences. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the eight steps in integrating evidence-based practice into the clinical environment, highlight barriers in implementing the new practice, discuss the strategies used to increase success in overcoming the barriers, and discuss the six sources of internal evidence used in providing data in outcome improvement. Part 1 The Eight Steps to Integrating Evidence-based Practice into the Clinical Environment The process of integrating the evidence-based practice into clinical environment includes steps that must be incorporated into the daily routine in the patient care. The first step in integrating EBP into the clinical environment is inculcating the culture of EBP into healthcare organization with the effort to lower costs through shortening the length of hospital stay and reducing or eliminating hospital-acquired infections such as catheterassociated urinary tract infections (CAUTI), central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI), among others.
