Nevada DMV Permit Test- Lines and Road Markings Flashcards White Lines mark the right edge of a roadway separate traffic going in the same direction Broken White Lines you may cross the lines when safe again, separate traffic going in the same direction Double White Lines don't cross under any circumstances double white lines always mean crossing them is prohibited Broken Yellow Lines passing zone you may drive on the left side to pass other vehicles pass only when safe Solid Yellow Lines no passing zone cannot drive on the left to pass vehicles can only cross the lines when making a left turn Reversible Lanes some highways have reversible traffic lanes to help handle rush-hour traffic the direction of traffic is normally reversed at set times each day these lanes are marked with special pavement markings, lane signals, and signs Solid and Broken Yellow Lines you may not pass if the solid yellow line is on your side if the broken yellow line is on your side, you may pass if it is safe to do so you may cross a solid yellow line for a left turn when such movement can be made safely.Solid White Lines don't cross this line unless to avoid an accident normally, a single solid white line means crossing the line is discouraged but not prohibited Left Turn Only (Shared Center) Lanes solid and broken yellow lines are also used for left turn lanes you can only cross solid yellow lines when making a left turn lanes are to be used ONLY FOR LEFT TURNS it is not a passing lane Solid Lines mean restricted movements, passing is not allowed Yellow lines separate lines of traffic moving in different directions mark the center of a roadway on a divided highway, they mark the edge Broken Lines mean permissive movements, passing is allowed
