Describe the initial interventions for treating a stroke (emergency management) ➢ Ensure patent airway ➢ Call stroke code or stroke team ➢ remove dentures ➢ Perform Pulse Ox ➢ Maintain adequate oxygen ➢ FLUIDS! ➢ TPA from 3-4 hr window ➢ Maintain BP - antihypertensives ➢ Antiplatelets - aspirin ticlid, plavix ➢ Oral anticoagulants - warfarin (hx of afib), Eliquis 2. Describe specific manifestations of right-brain stroke. ➢ Left side paralysis and weakness, Poor judgment, impulse control, over estimated abilities ➢ left side neglect and hemiplegia ➢ spatial orientation - Homonymous Hemianopsia (left side neglect) ➢ the left side is not seen 3. Describe the extent of injury for each spinal cord level C4 - tetraplegia - complete paralysis below the neck ❖ C6 - partial paralysis of hands and arm and lower body ❖ T6 - paraplegia, results in paralysis below the chest - bowel and balance issues ❖ L1 - paraplegia, results in paralysis below the waist - just legs or hips, bladder and bowels 4. Describe the clinical manifestations and nursing management of the patient with viral Hepatitis B (HBV) ❖ Assessment: malaise, weight loss, N/V, RUQ pain, jaundice, skin, rash, clay colored stools, dark urine (icteric), dehydration ❖ Complications: Acute liver failure, chronic hep, cirrhosis, cancer ❖ Tests: CT of abdomen, ultrasound of liver/abdomen, Antigen/antibody testing, viral load, liver biopsy, liver enzymes, bilirubin, ultrasound (decreased calcium) ❖ Labs: alt alp, amylase, bilirubin H&H ❖ Management: Rest nutrition,medications, education - no alcohol, don’t share needles, wash your hands, etc. 5.
