What is Naegele's rule?

- The rule estimates the expected date of delivery (EDD). 

Calculate using one of the following methods:

LMP + 9 months + 7 days

or

LMP - 3 months + 7 days

How do you summarize obstetric history? (GTPAL)

- Gravida: # of pregnancies

Term: # of deliveries after 37 weeks

Preterm: # of deliveries between 20-37 weeks

Abortion: # of deliveries before 20 weeks (induced or spontaneous)

Living: # of living children

What vaccines to give during pregnancy?

-Influenza during flu season

-TDAP between 27-36 weeks

Explain how to use Plan B

-Take 1st dose as soon as possible (up to 72 hours after unprotected sex)

-Take 2nd dose 12 hours later

*If the woman does not have a period in the next 3 weeks, she should take a pregnancy 

test

What is primary amenorrhea?

- No menses by age 15

What is secondary amenorrhea?

- No menses for 3 cycles, or 6 months if she previously had menses

What are some causes of secondary amenorrhea?

-pregnancy

-ovarian disorders

-anorexia

-PCOS

What is the cause of dysmenorrhea and how to treat it?

- Dysmenorrhea (painful periods) are caused by high levels of prostaglandins.

Treatment is symptom management: heating pads/NSAIDs

III: penis gets longer, testicular/scrotal growth continues, scrotum darkens
