Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) (IM or Oral Regimens) first line treatment

Ceftriaxone 500 mg single dose + Doxycycline 100 mg PO BID for 14 days + Metronidazole 

500 mg PO BID for 14 days

Syphilis first line treatment

Adults: Benzathine penicillin G, 2.4 million units intramuscularly one time

Doxazosin

Medication for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)

Chlamydia first line drugs

Doxycycline 100 mg PO BID x 7 days

or

Azithromycin 1000 mg po once

or

Levofloxacin 500 mg PO QD for 7 days

Uncomplicated Gonococal Urethritis first line drugs (ONLY IF Chlamydial infection has NOT 

been excluded)

Ceftriaxone 500 mg intramuscularly in a single dose plus oral doxycycline 100 mg twice daily 

for 7 days.

Uncomplicated Gonococal Urethritis first line drugs (IF Chlamydial infection HAS been 

excluded and person is <150kg>

Ceftriaxone 500 mg IM in a single dose

Uncomplicated Gonococal Urethritis first line drugs (IF Chlamydial infection HAS been 

excluded and person is >150kg)

Ceftriaxone 1 g IM in a single dose

Bacterial Vaginosis first line treatment

Metronidazole 500mg PO BID for 7 days

OR

Metronidazole, 5g gel applicator intravaginally once a day for 5 days

OR

Clindamycin cream, 5g gel applicator intravaginally at bedtime for 7 days

Herpes Simplex Virus

(First Clinical Episode)

Acyclovir, 400 mg PO TID for 7-10 days

OR

Acyclovir, 200mg PO fives times a day for 7-10 days

OR

Famciclovir, 250 mg PO TID for 7-10 days

OR

Valacyclovir, 1g PO BID for 7-10 days

Side effects for Doxazosin

hypotension, dizziness, nasal congestions

Dutasteride

Medication for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)

Patient teaching and response to delayed onset of therapeutic effect of Dutasteride
