CHAPTER & HEADING TOPIC Chapter 1 (Alfaro-LeFevre): Critical Thinking Versus Nursing Process What are the 6 steps to the nursing process per ANA?  Assessment  Diagnosis  Outcome identification  Planning  Implementation  evaluation What is the purpose of the nursing process? How will it help you as a nurse?  Serves as a critical thinking model that promotes a competent level of care.  This means that the nursing process—Assess, Diagnose, Plan, Implement, and Evaluate—is the major tool for clinical reasoning.  It’s the first tool you need to know to think like a nurse and pass NCLEX® and other exams. Chapter 3: Comparison of Selected Nursing Models Table 3.2 Chapter 3: Key Concepts Common in Nursing Models What are the common concepts common in nursing models?  Client or patient (individual or collective)- complex entities affected by various interrelating factors, such as the mind and body, the individual and the environment, and the person and the person's family  Health- health as a continuum, ranging from a completely healthy state in which there is no disease to a completely unhealthy state, which results in death  Environment- the simple physical environment to elements such as living conditions, public sanitation, and air and water quality. Factors such as interpersonal relationships and social interactions are also included.  Nursing-After consideration of what it means to be a client, what it means to be healthy, and how the environment influences the client's health status (either positively or negatively), the concept of nursing delineates the function and role of nurses in their relationships with clients that affect the client's health Why is the client central to all nursing models?  The concept of client (or patient) is central to all nursing models because it is the client who is the primary recipient of nursing care Chapter 3: Major Nursing Theories and Models Know the following models/theories: Roy Adaption Model Orem Self-Care Model King Model of Goal Attainment Watson Model of Caring P a g e 1 | 2
