1. triage

sorting of patient based upon the severity oftheirinjuries. The goal is doing the greatest good for
the greatest number of people. In times of disaster and/or mass casualties the health care system
can become overwhelmed by the number and severity of the patients. The patients may
outnumber the availability of the local resources. This happens rapidly.
2. primary triage
Answer
brief assessment done very quickly and to accurately categorize the patient's condition and
transport needs.
3. secondary triage

done in the treatment area and color tag can change base on condition
4. START triage

SimpleTriage and Rapid Treatment
Uses a limited assessment of the patient's ability to walk, respiratory status, hemodynamicstatus
(pulse - radial, decent CO) and neuro status
5. steps of START triage
Answer
Performed on arrival - call out to patients at the disaster site "If you can hear my voice and can
walk ........" give directions. These people are the walking wounded and are green.
Non walking people - first person and assess resp, if not breathing - open airway if still not
breathing move on. If breathing turn into recovery position and tag red.
Check bilateral radial pulse, absent radial - low Bp, red
Neuro status - follow simple commands.If unable - red, if able yellow
