Academic Success and Professional Development Plan Part 2: Strategies to
Promote Academic Integrity and Professional Ethics
Part 1: The Connection between Academic and Professional Integrity
Academic dishonesty and poor writing go hand in hand because of this connection.
This linking of ideas allows for developing and using novel approaches to data and information.
Referencing other scholarly publications is a standard practice in academic writing. The term
"instructional media" often refers to various forms of publication, such as books, journals, and
online materials. Academic integrity safeguards the originality of any written work and
encourages honesty in the classroom. In order to prove the author's legitimacy, a standard format
is used for scholastic writing assignments like essays and research papers. Avoiding plagiarism,
logical fallacies, and other forms of dishonesty is essential to maintaining academic integrity
(Cleary & Sayers, 2017). Citing sources properly and ensuring that all references are current are
two critical aspects of academic writing.
Contrarily, "professionalism" refers to the public demonstration of honesty by experts
in their fields (Davis, 2018). Thus, academic professionalism aims to promote the most stringent
codes of ethics among its members. Therefore, all lecturers and educators should act in a
scholarly manner. On the other hand, one author, Maxwell, claims that professionalism is the
demonstration of ethics and other practices within a specific field and the assurance of a person's
commitment to those standards. In addition, scholarly ethics provide set norms for the
appropriate use of scholarly materials in academic writing. The quality of an article is
proportionate to the author's adherence to specific ethical standards (Hultman et al., 2018). Thus,
the absence of such ethics in writing ideally undermines the quality of essays and other
professional endeavors.
