Explain the use of Misoprostol Misoprostol is a medication that belongs to the class of synthetic prostaglandins. It has several uses, depending on the route of administration and the dosage. One of the uses of misoprostol is to prevent and treat stomach and duodenal ulcers that can be caused by taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin or ibuprofen. Misoprostol works by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach and by protecting the stomach lining from damage . Another use of misoprostol is to induce labor, cause an abortion, or treat postpartum bleeding due to poor contraction of the uterus. Misoprostol works by stimulating the contraction of the uterine muscles and by softening the cervix . Misoprostol can be taken by mouth, dissolved in the mouth, placed in the vagina, or inserted in the rectum, depending on the indication and the desired effect . 3. When caring for a patient with a central line who is receiving TPN, what is the MOST important action on the part of the nurse to prevent CLABSI The nurse should follow strict aseptic technique when handling the central line and the TPN infusion. This includes wearing gloves, mask, gown and cap, and using sterile dressing and tubing. The nurse should also monitor the insertion site for signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, drainage or pain. The nurse should change the dressing and tubing according to the protocol, and flush the line with saline or heparin as ordered. The nurse should document the care and assessment of the central line and report any abnormal findings to the provider. 4. The patient is diagnosed with multiple Myeloma.
