Assessments to be Administered
Educators are responsible for selecting and administering appropriate assessments to
address students’ needs. These diagnostic assessments can help manage the student’s academic,
behavioral, and social needs and strengths referred to by the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team
(MET). Upon reviewing Scott’s MET case study, three assessments appropriately address his
individual needs: Conners-3
rd edition, Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales-2nd edition, and
Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-4
th edition.
Justification of Assessments
Scott has been determined through his MET assessment to display aggressive, defiant,
and hyperactive behaviors at school and home. As a result of such behaviors, the Conners-3
rd
edition assessment should be utilized. This assessment is constructed to measure the
inattentiveness, hyperactivity, defiance disorders, family relations, and executive functioning of
children ages 6 to 18 years (TEA, 2019). In Scott’s MET study, his concerns for referral include
aggression and disruptive behavior inside the classroom setting, throwing objects at students and
staff at a high rate over two hours. This assessment can help determine Scott’s defiance disorders
and be used to address the issues the classroom teacher is facing in Scott refusing to participate
in the classroom with any activities involving basic classroom materials (i.e., pencils, markers,
crayons, scissors). Conners-3
rd edition can also tell us whether Scott’s behaviors are due to a
developmental disorder (i.e., ADHD, ODD, etc.) or a more complex learning disability causing
behavioral outbursts (TEA, 2019). As Scott has been determined to have a challenging time
staying still and following directions for extended periods, the Conners-3
rd edition assessment
can be given in its shorter format to gauge a baseline score for Scott’s behaviors and
predetermine if a more extended version may need to be implemented later. O
