Flashcards Your licenseDriving is a legal privilege and responsibility. It is against the law to drive a motor vehicle on the streets and highways without a valid driver license. It is also illegal to sit in the driver's seat of a motor vehicle while the engine is running or steer a motor vehicle while it is being pushed or towed by another vehicle IF you do not have a valid driver license.Test Requirements for an original Driver license: - Vision- Traffic Signs- Knowledge Test- Driving Skill- Health Requirements Types of licenses, permits and restrictions: North Carolina has a regular driver license and a commercial driver license (CDL). The type of vehicle you will operate determines the class of driver license you must have and the type of vehicle in which you must take the driving skills test. The driving skills test. The driving skills test must be performed in a vehicle representative of the class license desired.

Regular Licenses:CLASS A - Required to operate a combination of vehicles

that is exempt from CDL (COMMERCIAL DRIVER LICENSE) requirements when the towed unit has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 10,001 pounds or more.CLASS B - Required to operate any single vehicle that is exempt from CDL requirements w/ a GVWR of 26,001 pounds or more, and any such vehicle towing a vehicle w/ a GVWR not in excess of 10,000 pounds.CLASS C - Required to operate any noncommercial single vehicle w/ a GVWR of less than 26,001 pounds; and a vehicle towing a vehicle w/ a GVWR of less than 26,001 pounds operated by a driver 18 yrs. or older. Most drivers need only a Regular Class C license to operate personal automobiles and small trucks.Motorcycle Learner Permit- If an applicant is at least 16 yrs. old but less than 18 yrs.old, the applicant must posses a full provisional license issued by the division. Parent or guardian's signature required.- If applicant is 18 yrs. or older, the applicant MUST possess a license issued by the division.- The motorcycle learner permit authorizes a person to operate a motorcycle w/o passengers.- The motorcycle learner permit is valid for 12 months and may be renewed for an additional six-month period.

  • Driving skill (on-road test) Office hoursMost offices offer services from 8:00am to 5:00pm. In larger cities and towns, the offices are open Monday through Friday and sometimes Saturday mornings. In smaller towns may only be open for certain days each week. Contact your local driver license office to book an appointment.Learner permit- Learner permits are available to persons age 18 and older.- It authorizes the permit holder to drive a specified type or class of motor vehicle while in possession of the permit.- The permit holder must, while operating a motor vehicle over the highways, be accompanied by a person who is licensed to operate the motor vehicle being driven and is seated beside the permit holder.TIP FOR THREE-POINT TURNABOUTSTEP 1 - Start from the extreme right side of the road.Look for other traffic and if clear, give a left signal and proceed forward slowly while turning the steering wheel to the left. Stop within several inches of the left curb or edge of the street.STEP 2 - Then proceed backward slowly while turning to the steering wheel to the right. Stop within several inches of the right curb or edge of the street.STEP
