TNM1: PROJECT PROPOSAL WITH STRATEGIES

- Assessing Current Functionality & MicroInteraction
A1. Describe how the current website content fails to meet audience and stakeholder needs.
Audience Needs:
The current website fails to meet the stakeholders' needs in many ways. The home page does not state a clear overview in the nice layout that visitors are looking for. The layout needs to be updated so that all the links and information are clearly stated and available. The current website also fails to meet the needs specifically of cat and dog owners. For cat owners, the cat page should list the information on feeding needs based on the specification of type, age, diet, and other preferences. The current cat page fails to list those specifications out and only categorizes them by age. As for dog owners, the current website does not have any information on the activity needs of puppies throughout their lifetime therefore fails to meet the needs of the audience. They also have no recommendations for pet toys that encourage physical activity.
Stakeholders' Needs:
The current website fails to meet the stakeholders' needs for a clear understanding of what they do and what their mission is. The stakeholders need consistent implementation of their branding. Based on the current website, their branding is featured one time only and is not implemented on any page, only their website header. In addition to the failure of branding, their values are not clearly stated, and fail to convey their mission to the audience. The stakeholders emphasized that they are looking to encourage users to contact them for consultations, and the current website has no contact information at all or mention of how they could contact them. I also noticed that the website fails to mention the words “new pet consultation” or “new pet care consultation” and that fails to meet their goal to be on the first page of search engines.A2. Describe how the current website functionality fails to meet audience and stakeholder needs.
Audience Needs:
Although the current website meets the audience's needs for having links to the other pages, the way it is laid out is not optimal. I would also add an option of what view they would like, either phone or desktop, and make sure the website has a responsive design. The biggest failure of this website is the search bar which is not working. The audience is expecting easy accessibility to the information they need, so the search bar function is currently failing to Downloaded by IAN NJUGUNA ([email protected]) lOMoARcPSD|5967629
meet their needs.
Stakeholder's Needs:
Stakeholders are looking to have easy navigation for their users, and the current website fails to deliver easy navigation with buttons and other functionality that could help. The search bar, which is generally used for navigating websites, is not working and therefore also fails to meet the needs of the stakeholders. The stakeholders also are looking for a contact form so the visitors can book one on one consultations, and the current design does not provide that.A3. Describe how the current navigation system fails to meet audience and stakeholder needs.
Audience Needs:
The navigation layout fails to meet the audience's needs. Links to pages are not laid out. The search bar is also not working which makes it difficult for the user to navigate to different pages. The layout for navigation also needs to be updated so that it is optimal for mobile devices and not just desktop views. Since dog owners often use their mobile devices while working with their puppies, the navigation layout needs to be updated so that it's easy to work with one hand.
Stakeholders' Needs:
Stakeholders want their site to be easy to navigate on all devices. Right now, the site fails to meet their needs because you have to scroll to see the necessary links. The search bar is also broken and users won’t be able to navigate to different pages easily. They wanted an easily readable site, but all the page's contents are aligned on the left which is not optimal.B1. Planning for Future Functionality & micro-interactions
- Explain the necessary website functionality and micro-interactions needed to
meet audience and stakeholder needs.
Audience Needs:
To meet the audience's needs, a micro-interaction that would be helpful would be a gallery with pictures of dogs and cats, that have slide indicators. This will allow for an overview of what animals the company focuses on. If each of these images also links to the corresponding page, visitors won’t want to leave because it will optimize the layout, and navigation and make the information easily accessible and clear. I believe a footer with a site map would be beneficial for users to navigate to different pages easily as well, especially for desktop users.
Stakeholders' Needs:
For stakeholders, a button on every page that will link to the consultation page Downloaded by IAN NJUGUNA ([email protected]) lOMoARcPSD|5967629
would help with easy navigation. I believe a faceted search would help users filter their needs easily and find what they are looking for faster by narrowing down results to meet their needs. The stakeholders want a contact form for booking consultations. In that form, we’ll need places to enter all user data that the stakeholders want (name, phone number, email, time zone, and any specific requests). In this contact form, some micro interactions could include focusing on the current input user is on and error prevention for inputs by warning users if the input field is missing or inputted as an incompatible format or data type. A fun micro interaction could be when visiting a certain animal’s page, having a sound output with that animal's sound could be fun and keep users interested.B2. New page
- Describe the type of content that will be used for one new page based on one of
- Identify existing content from the website that will be removed or redeveloped
the new user personas, including how the elements of the content align directly with the chosen user persona. The new page should contain content with information for freshwater and saltwater fish, as users are most likely going to be fish owners. On the new fish page that will be added to the website, there will first need to be an overview of the page and what it covers. The user will need content on information for bringing home a new fish, caring for the fish’s environment (water, tanks, and aquariums), and also a section on the page for both saltwater and freshwater fish. To make this new page easy to navigate, as per stakeholder’s specification, I will want to include a way to navigate to a new page specifically for freshwater fish and saltwater fish, that way all information is clear and easily readable. The saltwater page will include proper salinity levels and links to external resources. The freshwater page will include the water chemistry guidelines listed by the stakeholder. Both these pages should contain a button to contact an expert for more information.B3. Content Removal
and explain how that content fails to meet the proposed audience and stakeholder needs.
Audience Needs:
The first content that will need redevelopment is the content on the homepage. The audience is interested in learning about the company’s values, what they do, and the services they provide. I want to reuse the contents in a way so they all have a purpose in conveying the company’s values and overview of what they do. For example, I would remove the FAQs image and replace it with the new page that will be added. The FAQs page doesn’t serve a purpose on the homepage because it should be on each pet’s unique page, answering specific questions regarding each animal. I would also remove the fetch button because it isn’t working and has no Downloaded by IAN NJUGUNA ([email protected]) lOMoARcPSD|5967629
