Pelvic Inflammatory Disease •Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) isan infection of one or more of the upper reproductive organs, including the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries.Untreated PID can cause scar tissue and pockets of infected fluid (abscesses) to develop in the reproductive tract, which can cause permanent damage •PID is an inflammatory condi-tionof the pelvic cavity that may begin with cervicitisand may involve the uterus (endometritis), fallopian tubes (salpingitis), ovaries (oophoritis), pelvic peritoneum, or pelvic vascular system.
CAUSES
•Infection developing in thefemale reproductive system by bacteria •The main cause of PID is through asexually transmitted infection (STI)such aschlamydia,gonorrhoeaor mycoplasmagenitalium.•These bacteria usually only infect the cervix, there's been damage to the cervix following childbirth or amiscarriage.•You have a procedure that involves opening the cervix(such as anabortion, inspection of the womb, or insertion of anintrauterine device (IUD) •You have had PID before
