Review the impact of health care facilities on a community. Enumerate the various types of health care services that any

particular community may need. Posit:

What if the hospital had to close down because the money to keep it open was not available? What if the nearest SNF was 150 miles away? What impact might this have on the residents in the area?

Encourage students to look beyond what they think they know to identify what is really available in their community.

Homework Assignment:

Interview two members of your family to identify what type of health care facility (hospital, walk-in clinic) or specialty (physical therapy, OB/GYN) they have used in the last 3 years. Then, have them ask, what if that facility was not there?What might have happened? Write down the responses and present to the class.
