PREPARING FOR THE NCLEX
What is the NCLEX?The NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) is a standardized exam used in the United States and Canada to assess the competency of nursing graduates seeking licensure as registered nurses (RNs) or licensed practical nurses (LPNs).The exam was developed and maintained by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) and consists of computer-adaptive and traditional multiple-choice questions that test the candidate's knowledge and skills in various areas of nursing practice.Passing the NCLEX is a requirement to obtain a nursing license and practice as a nurse in the United States and Canada. What is the NCLEX?The Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) is a proposed new version of the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for nursing licensure in the United States and Canada starting April 2023.The NGN is being developed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) as a response to changes in the healthcare industry and advancements in technology. The NGN incorporated new item types, such as video, audio, and other interactive components, to better assess a candidate's nursing competency. The NGN will also place more emphasis on clinical judgment skills, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities, which are essential for providing safe and effective patient care.
