THYROID GLAND
The thyroid gland is a small organ that’s located in the front of the neck, wrapped around the windpipe (trachea). Second largest endocrine gland in body .It’s shaped like a butterfly, smaller in the middle with two wide wings that extend around the side of your throat.The thyroid gland secretes different types of hormones which regulate different function within the body.Hormones secreted by thyroid gland is T3 ,T4 and calcitonin.
HORMONES OF THYROID AND THEIR FUNCTION
Triiodothyronine Triiodothyronine, also known as T₃, is a thyroid hormone. It affects almost every physiological process in the body, including growth and development, metabolism, body temperature, and heart rate.Thyroxine (T4) TSH, in turn, stimulates thyroid follicular cells to release thyroxine or T4 (80%), and triiodothyronine or t3 20 percent.Thyroxine(T4) is responsible for your metabolism, mood, and body temperatureand growth.
