13.Ventilation: Technique used to remove heated smoke/gas from a

burning building. Can remove explosive smoke and has concentrations which allows for advancement of hose lines into effective positions for fire extinguishments.

14.PPV (Positive Pressure Ventilation): process of using fans to force air

into a structure and force heat/gasses out

15.Under Control: generally indicates the fire is no longer spreading,

however there may still be fire present.

16.Staging Area: Temporary location near the incident where

additional equip- ment is being directed to assemble for further instructions and organizations.

17.Knock-down: to reduce flame and heat to prevent danger of further

extension of fire.
