  • Avoid changing positions rapidly
  • Wear sunglasses (d/t photosensitivity)
  • NMS & SS Haloperidol (Haldol) - may causeExtrapyramidal symptoms

Extrapyramidal symptomsEARLY: acute dystonia, parkinsonism, akathisia

LATE: tardive dsykinesia (repetitive & involuntary movements)

Clozapine (Clozaril)antipsychotic anticholinergic Lithium (Lithobid)Manic phase of bi-polar & prevent bipolar manic-depressive psychosis

Lithium toxicityvomit, diarrhea, muscular weakness, ataxia, impaired vision, hand tremors, reversible leukocytosis, dry mouth, anorexia, hypotension, dysrhythmias, polyuria, proteinuria, hyponatremia, hypo/hyper thyroid

Lithium - fun facts:* Check serum levels 2x/week (q 2-3 weeks main.)

  • 0.5-1.5 mEq/L (main.= 0.6-1.2)
  • 1-2 weeks ther. onset
  • Take w/food
  • Reduce dose w/depressive phase

Diazepam (Valium)Antianxiety:

  • ETOH withdrawal
  • Seizure disorder
  • Skeletal Muscle relaxation
  • Preoperative sedation
